Every year, between June and September, over a million souls find solace in the sounds of the Hollywood Bowl. A prestigious roster of artists, including Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Doors, Frank Sinatra, Jay-Z, Pavarotti, and Lady Gaga, have graced its stage, each leaving an indelible mark on its illustrious history.
As if the curtain is rising at the Hollywood Bowl, Acmispon glaber (D) takes center stage, its clusters of globe-shaped orange-red flowers resembling the well-lit orchestra. The long, slender green leaves shoot out like rockets, adding to the spectacle. Amidst the spring and summer months, a symphony of color erupts, led by the explosive mauve ball-shaped flowers of Asclepias speciosa (F) and Eriogonum rebescens (I), painting the sky with vibrant hues. Meanwhile, the tendril stems of Heuchera maxima (E), adorned with red bell-shaped flowers, dance gracefully, echoing the sparkle of the fireworks.
Adding to the enchantment are the silver foliage of Salvias (B), shimmering like cascading stars, and the large, rounded green leaves with delicate silver veins of Heuchera maxima (E) lending their light to the spectacle. Along the border, Trifolium wormskioldii (G), Scrophularia californica chartreuse (H), and Alliums (A, J) stand tall, offering a diverse array of tubular, conical, and spherical floral shapes, reminiscent of the more muted glow of the show's reflection on the faces of the spellbound audience.
